Meet Paula

Born in Seoul, South Korea, Paula O’Loughlin was adopted at the age of 6 months and raised in Woodbury, Minnesota with her two younger brothers. The call to serve came early to Paula. She started volunteering in elementary school, helping neighborhood preschoolers begin to learn reading and writing, and has been active in her community ever since.

In District 39B, Paula has served in a variety of volunteer roles over the years within the Stillwater Area Public School district. She also served on the board of The Partnership Plan. Paula currently serves on the Stillwater Area School Board as Vice-Chair.

Paula’s volunteerism extends throughout the Twin Cities Area for organizations including the YWCA in Minneapolis, Catholic Charities, the American Red Cross and the Children’s Home Society of Minnesota where she has worked with adoptees and adoptive parents.

Paula currently works at Equity Alliance MN (formerly the East Metro Integration District) as a Program Manager overseeing Elementary Student Programming & Professional Learning.  Starting her 7th year with the organization this year, the best part of her job is working and learning alongside students, teachers and educators from districts around the state.

Paula loves to travel and has lived in several states across the country.  She made a special return to her birth country in 2004, when she and her husband Sean adopted their son Daniel.  Sean and Paula met while she was working and living in New York City and have been back in her home state since 2000.

Paula and Sean live in Lake Elmo with their children, Kyra (10th grade at Stillwater Area High School) and Daniel (7th grade at Oak-Land Middle School), and their black lab, Remington.  Entering his advanced canine years, Remi considers himself retired and loves the wide open spaces that Lake Elmo has to offer.

Paula attended public schools throughout her K-12 education and graduated from Woodbury High School in 1989. She holds a degree in Elementary Education with a Middle School Mathematics Specialty from the University of St. Catherine, and dreams of one day returning to school to study law and sociology.
